My
Project |
It was not until the early 1980s that I first decided that I should embark upon this personal project and document what I knew and thought about my life experiences as well as my family history. My book is to be published under the title of A Long Journey from Portslade.
I essentially came to the conclusion that I owed it to myself to work it all out and to the next generations of my rapidly expanding family to record how we have come to be here in Australia and where I am able provide a historical reference for their own research.
The idea became a more than an idea and more of a possibility only when the personal computer was invented. In 1982-83, the Apple and then IBM produced the first personal computers.
I am of course concentrating on Walls – Simmons - Bartley and Scott – and O’Leary – Bellingham. However, my personal perspective also records how we invaded the Smith, Lam, Martin, Billinghurst, Papanikadopolous, Grant and Nichols families and particularly ensured an ever expanding presence in Australia.
I am hopeful that my efforts will encourage other members of the family to make a similar effort. I believe that we all have something to say in our own way and that many of us tend to put it off until it is too late. Also I believe it is important to record the family history for the following generations.
